Asian Countries Unable to Stop Trade in Bear Bile - TRAFFIC report

The Bear Bile Business Anti smuggling groups have stated that Asian countries are failing to prevent cross border trade in bear bile.

There are only about 25 000 Asiatic black bears these days and their numbers are dwindling due to poaching in order to obtain the highly valuable bear bile for traditional medicine use.

More than 50% of traditional medicine stores in China, Malaysia, Vietnam and Burma have been found to have bear bile based traditional medicines in stock over the past year, as reported by TRAFFIC's published report at http://www.traffic.org/ .

  1. It's especially sad when you learn that sometimes they cage the bears and leave them alive with shunts in their sides to milk the bile while they're alive. They eventually die, but in great agony.
